Photo What?

I’d been reading for a while in the beauty magazines about Photo Finish from Smashbox so I decided to try the foundation primer. Frankly, I’m not impressed. It’s a best seller but I can’t figure out why. I went out and got the version with their Dermaxyl Complex since I’m a vitamin junkie. I’ve given this product over a month. First, I can’t see any improvement on my skin since I’ve been using it. I don’t feel like my skin is “primed”. Second, the stuff smells plasticky. I feel like I’m smearing Latex on my face. Third, the goop doesn’t resettle in the bottle so after a while you have to dip the end of the application pump into the bottle and pull the goop off the stick inside of pumping it out.

CVS Honeymoon

It seems that CVS has taken over all the freestanding Savon stores in the Southern California area. The local Savon up the street from me has met that fate and after some split personality growing pains (the plastic sign hung on the building said CVS, my receipt said Savon), the transformation seems mostly complete.
Personally, I like the new CVS: other than the cheap checkerboard carpet on the floor, the store is much brighter. I love the selection of beauty products. It’s not the normal hodge podge of your standard drugstore/grocery store beauty aisles. There are tons of exotic brands and I absolutely love the aisle of organic beauty products. I’m sold!
Just in case, CVS has decided to sweeten the pot. There is a bonafide coupon free for all happening with this store. I’m not talking about the pithy dollar off coupons you get. These are the major league - get $10 off your purchase of $20. Plus, if you sign up for their CVS “ExtraCare” card, the cash register spews out these CVS bucks. Things like “buy one beauty product and get the second one free.”

The Estee Lauder Upsell

My original exposure to Estee Lauder started back when I was an insecure and impressionable 14 year old. I joined in with the other like minded teeny boppers in rushing to purchase Estee Lauder products upon hearing that members of the Lauder family would be attending my school in Austria while their father served as the Ambassador. I fell off the Lauder bandwagon while a cash strapped college student. After years of hit and miss with the drug store foundation options, I was recently lured back to the Lauder fold. My eager beaver little self hopped up to the offered seat for my foundation selection. In the old days when I searched for “just the right” shade of foundation, the process entailed getting swabs of make applied to ones cheek and then pointing at the shade. Not this time. In no time flat, the sales person had stripped my entire face of make up. Slathering on layer after layer of product, she explained how essential each one was. Finally, she got to the strip test, which consisted of different varieties of foundation slapped all around my face. After I picked the right style of foundation, then it was off to the actually shade selection. I found the right type which she then applied with a make up brush, explaining that it provided better coverage using less foundation. She finished the application and when I looked in the mirror, gosh darn it, I did look dewy and fresh. I ended up getting the Futurist foundation. I did succumb to one up sell (I swear, my eyes need it!) and also got the Advanced Night Repair Eye Recovery Complex.
