Beer’s Good for Your Bones
Move over calcium, a new player’s in town. Apparently ‘moderate’ beer drinking is potentially good for strengthening bones. A study of 1,700 women found that regular drinkers had better bone density that non-regular drinkers of beer. The study, published in the journal Nutrition was performed by researchers from the University of Extremadura in Caceres, Spain. Plant hormones in the beer called phytoestrogens may be what’s responsible for the increased bone density.
